Northwest Florida State College is part of Florida's system of 28 public community colleges and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. OWC courses are transferable nationwide. Within Florida, all public institutions have a common course numbering system for a seamless transfer of courses among schools.
OWC operates full-time educational centers at Hurlburt Field and Eglin Air Force Base in the base education centers. The OWC main campus is located in Niceville. A joint campus with the University of West Florida is located in Fort Walton Beach and OWC also operates centers in Crestview and DeFuniak Springs. OWC is an accredited partner in the Military Spouse Career Advancement Initiative.
The Eglin and Hurlburt Centers offer more than 50 college courses per term scheduled during the day, lunch hour, evening or on weekends. Distance learning by the Internet and other methods is also available. The OWC Eglin Center and all OWC locations offer nine terms per year, including six Fast-track mini-terms. As a Servicemembers Opportunity College, OWC allows degree completion through transferring courses back to OWC in the event of a PCS move. If a military student must go TDY during a college term, OWC will supply a full refund for course fees. Students may register for courses in-person or by telephone or Internet from any location worldwide. OWC has an open door admission policy and an average class size of just 20 students. The college enrolls more than 15,000 students annually.
