Americorps Logo
AmeriCorps is a component of the National Service Network. Its goal is to engage Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to help meet communities' critical education, public safety, environmental, and other human needs. AmeriCorps is often referred to as the "Domestic Peace Corps."

OWC sponsors two teams of AmeriCorps members.  The OWC English Coaches is a school-based program where members are trained to tutor English Language Learners in grades K-12.  The OWC Emergency Response team trains members in Emergency Services.  Full-time members serve a minimum of 1700 hours per service year. They receive a taxable living allowance and a $4,725 education award voucher at the end of the service year. Half-time members serve 900 hours and receive a reduced living allowance and education award. Other benefits include healthcare insurance, childcare, and student loan deferment for those qualified.

All students are encouraged to contact the AmeriCorps office for volunteer opportunities. Federal Work Study students interested in working as a reading tutor may contact the AmeriCorps office for placement information.

For more information, contact the AmeriCorps OWC offices at (850) 729-6037 or (850) 729-6024.
